The St Pius School Library and Resource Centre is housed within the Mary MacKillop Centre which was officially opened in 2010. It is the heart of the school community where everyone in the school belongs, communicates and crosses paths. Our core mission remains promoting a love of reading and learning which underpins all the decisions concerning collection development and events. Students are also encouraged to recommend titles they would like purchased for their library.

Each week the students visit the Library for a literacy based learning experience to promote literature and to individually borrow. Every student is required to borrow every week and consequently must therefore always have a library satchel with which to borrow. This positive culture of recreational reading is further enhanced at St Pius through the B.R.B. (browse, read, borrow) program held each Thursday before and after school. To further encourage reading there are a range of activities throughout the year including author visits, Premier's Reading Challenge, theatre company visits, Reader's Cup in-school and district competitions, excursions to writers' festivals and Book Week activities.

The Teacher Librarian is part of the Information Communication Learning Technologies Committee, which means she is involved in important discussions and decisions about the teaching of and use of technology in our school.

Makerspace is another element within the library program. The library has become and will continue to evolve, as a place that offers opportunities for the community to belong, innovate, learn, engage, discover, create and imagine. To make this possible the library is open each day at second break where a range of student led activities take place. We house materials including colouring, construction and games etc.

At present due to construction our current space is limited however, this will change and at the end of 2018 we will be expanding into a larger area as more buildings become available. The library is an ever-changing landscape and as it expands we will be designing spaces for learning, by investigating current trends in 21st libraries and education whilst trying to create the perfect library and resource centre for our current community.

Our fiction collection is currently being reorganised by genre with the goal of encouraging more borrowing and reading by our students. At the end of 2017 we purchased a large amount of new fiction and guided readers that have now been integrated into the genre-fied collection. We are also in the process of redesigning the library website to be more user friendly with which to serve our community's needs.

As our resource centre continues to grow, change and transform into a 21st century space we hope that all our efforts will make the St Pius library a place that is inviting, modern and caters to all the members of our school community.

Our staff include Teacher Librarian, Yasmin Relja as well as Anne Morgan, our school library officer.
