Celebrating Catholic EducationEnd of Semester One
It really is hard to believe that half the year has gone already, although upon looking back we should all feel significantly proud and appropriately tired! Once again I would like to thank all who have contributed to making St Pius such a vibrant and welcoming community. I am in the privileged position of meeting prospective parents and the volume of positive feedback from within our school and beyond is extremely heartening. At the risk of stating the obvious, it is the people within the community that determine its nature. I simply want to say we are very, very fortunate and thank you!! I hope you are all able to enjoy some rest and family time over the holiday break, I know I will!

Disco
Our disco on Friday night was a resounding success. Over 100 students representing over 75% of our enrolment enjoyed the entertainment and company of the evening. Many parents commented on the enthusiasm of the children and it was great to see many parents getting into the spirit of things during the night. The massive crowd took everyone by surprise; given this, our caterers did an exceptional job ensuring there was enough for everyone! Special thanks to the organisers and helpers from the P&F, too numerous to mention. However special thanks to Terri Flynn and Kerrie Brown who bore the brunt of the organisation and to the staff who gave up their own time to attend. It really was a terrific team effort. It was wonderful to see our children having so much fun. The highlight for me was when a grandparent wanted me to know “what a beautiful school” we have! Thanks to everyone!

APRE News

As we once again approach the end of another busy term I find myself (and I am sure you do as well) thinking where has the time gone. It seems only yesterday we were coming back to school after celebrating Easter, yet so much has happened since then. It has been wonderful to see our community continue to move forward and become an even better place to live, love and learn.

Please keep in your prayers this week those students who will be making their First Holy Communion this Sunday at Corpus Christi Church. We pray for these children as they participate in the next step of their sacramental journey. I know that these children have been preparing to receive their sacrament and I commend them for their efforts. I look forward to celebrating this occasion with them at Mass on Sunday morning.

Yesterday our school held True Colours Day, to raise money for cancer research. While it was great fun to dress up to support our favourite footy teams or just dress in our favourite colours, it is even better to see our community get behind something as important as cancer research. I would like to congratulate and thank Mr Searle and year 6/7 for their organisation and initiative in this matter.

Girls Touch Football Team

Gala Day
Our interschool sporting program for term 2 was finalised last Thursday with our students competing in Gala Day (a whole day of their chosen sport). Once again our students need to be congratulated on their performance and participation. We were thrilled to hear that one of our girls’ touch football teams had won their competition, well done girls. All other teams had successes in various forms. I was fortunate to attend rugby league each week. For Gala day all schools were split up to create teams including students from all schools. The improved skills and extended friendships that were forged over these weeks made this a very positive experience. Once again thanks to all students, staff and parents for making this such a successful activity.
