On Wednesday 14th March we celebrated the opening and blessing of our four previous BGA (Block Grant Authority) projects. The whole school and wider community celebrated a beautiful liturgy led by Fr Bernie and Deacon Damien. This was then followed by the civil ceremony. We were joined by a number of distinguished guests including: Honourable Mr Wayne Swan – Member for Lilley, Mr Luke Howarth – Member for Petrie, Mrs Leanne Linard – State Member for Nudgee, Cr Adam Allan – Councillor for Northgate Ward, Mr Michael Kearney Brisbane Catholic Education – Director of Administrative Services. Other representatives from Brisbane Catholic Education and the builders and architects were also present. It was wonderful to see the large number of parishioners, staff and students both past and present. We hope you enjoyed your morning.
Yesterday, Mr Michael Kearney informed everyone that it was a coincidence that our open-ing and blessing of new buildings was this week, as it was on Friday 16th March 1947 that St Pius was officially opened by His Grace, Archbishop J Duhig D.D. As the school building was not ready in time for the opening of the school year in 1947, the first few weeks the Sisters taught in the Presbytery (now the Parish House).
On behalf of the St Pius School community, I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in these building projects. To Fr Bernie and parishioners of the Banyo / Nundah Parish for their ongoing support. To previous Principals, Mr Peter Surawski and Ms Margo Carwardine. Ed Giacobone and his team at G and D who have been the Architects on all four projects. The team at Building services in Brisbane Catholic Education. To Boss Constructions, Glenleigh and Newlands for undertaking the construction work. To the members of the Pastoral School Board in particular Mr Dom Lacanau and Mrs Nicola Rae. Finally, to the students, staff, parents of St Pius. For their ongoing support during construction works and the ongoing growth of our school community.
